lower your tax burden

Governor Hochul Commits to Sign the Educational Choice for Children Act.

Pledge your tax credit.
Fund a scholarship.

The Educational Choice for Children Act creates a federal tax credit of up to $1,700 that you can direct to Gateway Academy — turning money you already owe into funding for GA scholarships. For Gateway Academy supporters, you can redirect money that you would have paid in federal taxes anyway toward scholarships for students, while receiving a corresponding federal tax credit.

For example:

  • Suppose you owe $5,000 in federal income taxes.
  • You make a qualifying $1,700 donation to an approved Scholarship Granting Organization (SGO).
  • You receive a $1,700 tax credit.
  • Your federal tax bill would then be reduced to $3,300.

That's much more valuable than a tax deduction. A deduction only lowers the income on which you're taxed; a credit reduces the tax you owe dollar-for-dollar.
