Does Gateway Academy (GA) administer standardized testing? Yes, students at GA (3rd through 8th) take the ELA and Math state tests every year. High School students take the SAT standardized test.  


What makes GA a safe school? GA's first priority is security: GA staffs an armed security guard during the schoolweek; most of our facility, inside and out, is video monitored; parents and guests are screened before entering our building; staff are continually trained for fire and lock down drills; and all staff undergo rigorous background checks.


What about emotional safety? GA has a nurturing school environment that does not tolerate actual bullying. Our teachers are excellent in their ability to connect with students, thus creating a healthy relational school environment.  


Is there bus transportation? Yes, transportation can be obtained through the NYC Office of Pupil Transportation for elementary - middle school students. Call 718-966-8695 ext. 140 email knights@gatewayacademyny.org for more information.


Is there Before and After Care? Yes. Before Care runs from 7:00 – 8:25 AM and After Care from 3:00 – 5:30 PM.  


When should I apply? You can apply now! New applications are accepted for review year-around.


When does the school day start and end? Full-time pre-k - high school students: 8:25 AM – 2:45 PM. Students in our half-day pre-k program attend until 11:30 AM.


Is there a standard uniform and where can I purchase it? Yes, there is a uniform. Uniforms are ordered at Flynn & O’Hara at 2645 Forest Avenue, Staten Island, NY. You can also order online here www.flynnandohara.com.
